16 Septembre 2013 - IDEA LEAGUE SUMMER SCHOOL - CONNECTED MOBILITY - RWTH AACHEN
Personal mobility is one of the key factors to the success of every country’s economy. But due to growing population and a continuously increasing urbanization, traditional traffic concepts are facing enormous challenges. “Connected Mobility” could be the key to meet future transportation demand in a sustainable way. This concept is twofold: Concerning individual mobility, it uses modern information and communication technology including the vehicle‐to‐vehicle‐communication or vehicle‐to‐infrastructure‐communication to improve the flow of traffic. On a second level, “Connected Mobility” comprises intelligent transportation networks using multi‐modal transport solutions.
In this Summer School, we will firstly identify general challenges towards future mobility. In a second step we will discuss existing solutions to meet these challenges, like integrated mobility concepts. Based on this analysis we look into new business models and markets for connectedmobility concepts. Eventually we will discuss communication technology solutions and identify possible problems and risks. On top, you will have the opportunity to gather firsthand information on “Connected Mobility” to our visit to the IAA. During the Summer School lectures will be givenby various academic and industrial speakers.

15 Juillet 2013 - IDEA LEAGUE SUMMER SCHOOL - PROTECTING YOUR PRIVACY IN A NETWORKED WORLD - TU DELFT
Personal information has increasingly become accessible on-line: browsing through social network sites – such as Facebook and LinkedIn –people tend to think that they can draft a profile from each other. But what more information of you is out there? Are you aware of what others know about you? The increased use of information technologies challenges us to rethink whether our privacy is potentially at risk and what we should do to create sufficient protection.
This summer school will try to reflect on the ethical, social and economic dimensions of privacy. It is necessary to understand that privacy is more than just protection of personal data. New technological developments raise concerns about the efficiency of our current privacy protection mechanisms. Questioning what the importance of privacy is, we should however think about the risks of too much privacy as well. In developing new privacy standards and privacy enhancing technologies we have to find an appropriate balance by weighing privacy against other values and concerns.
Speakers will reflect on this topic from diverse perspectives. Software developers will discuss the privacy challenges they faced in developing new technologies. Moreover, policymakers and academics will speak about the economic value of privacy, raise various ethical concerns and address the social impact of the loss of privacy. Besides general lectures, the programme will include as well some interactive discussions and working sessions.
